Electioneering


The run-up to the parliamentary elections in Finland began in early 2023 with the three major parties deadlocked in polls. The Social Democratic party lead by the prime minister Sanna Marin, the center-right National Coalition, and the far-right populist Finns Party were all vying for the leading position. This reportage transports you to the electioneering events at town halls, libraries, and market places. Then guides you through to the voting booths, ballot counting, and the election day victory celebrations of the winners of the race.

BIO

Sakari Piippo (b. 1981) is a documentary photographer based in Helsinki, Finland.

He has his master's degree in Visual Journalism from the University of Tampere, and has also studied Visual Storytelling at the Danish School of Media and Journalism.
His first book Eräitä huomioita Suomen poliittisesta järjestelmästä was released by Kosmos on September 2019.

Piippo concentrates in his work on building archives to serve as meeting places for utopian imaginations, enabling viewers to think and feel in new ways.
